Retirement of Fire Chief Paige Meyer

Post Date:12/26/2025 1:39 PM

San Ramon, CA – December 26, 2025 – The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (SRVFPD) today announced the retirement of Fire Chief Paige Wilson Meyer, who will conclude more than 30 years of service in fire service, emergency management, and public safety. Chief Meyer, who has served as Fire Chief and Treasurer since 2013, will retire effective January 7, 2026.

Chief Meyer noted that his final day of service holds special personal significance, as it coincides with the birthday of his beloved late mother Linda Wilson.

During his tenure, Chief Meyer led the District through a period of extraordinary growth and stability. Under his leadership, SRVFPD achieved long-term fiscal sustainability by eliminating all unfunded pension and OPEB liabilities, fully funding reserves and the Capital Improvement Plan, and earning a historic ISO Class 1 rating—placing the District among the very best fire agencies in the nation.

Equally important to these accomplishments was the culture built within the organization. “What made everything we accomplished possible was the people,” said Chief Meyer. “I have had the privilege of working alongside what I truly believe are the best firefighters and staff in the country, supported by an outstanding Fire Board and some of the strongest labor–management relationships I’ve seen in my career. This was not just a job—it was a dream role, made special by incredible people at every level of the organization.”

Chief Meyer emphasized that success was rooted in trust, collaboration, and shared commitment. “When you have firefighters who care deeply about their mission, a Board that is engaged and supportive, and labor partners who work collaboratively toward common goals, extraordinary things can happen. I am incredibly proud of what this team accomplished together.”

Under his leadership, SRVFPD delivered major capital projects including a state-of-the-art Regional Fire Training Center (the first in over 55 years), new fire stations and a fully accredited Public Safety Complex with a joint Fire–Police 911 Dispatch and Emergency Operations Center. The District also implemented innovative programs such as California’s first fire–police behavioral health crisis response model and a comprehensive Wildfire Mitigation Program incorporating risk mapping, community engagement, and insurer partnerships.

Following a comprehensive recruitment and interview process, the SRVFPD Board of Directors has selected Jonas Aguiar, the District’s Deputy Chief of Operations, as the next Fire Chief. Chief Aguiar, a 20-year veteran of the organization, will assume his new role on January 8, 2026.

“Jonas Aguiar is an exceptional leader and a person of great integrity,” said Chief Meyer. “I am incredibly proud of him and confident in his ability to lead this organization forward. We have worked closely together for many years, and I look forward to the continued success of the District under his leadership.”

SRVFPD Board President Matthew J. Stamey praised Chief Meyer’s leadership and legacy. “Chief Meyer’s leadership transformed this organization,” said Board President Stamey. “His commitment to fiscal responsibility, collaboration, and community trust strengthened the District in lasting ways. We are deeply grateful for his service and leadership.”

Reflecting on his career, Chief Meyer expressed deep gratitude to the community. “I have been truly honored to serve a community that values public safety and deeply supports its firefighters. The residents of the San Ramon Valley care about the people who protect them, and that support makes all the difference. Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”
