At 0829 hours this morning, July 23, 2010, San
Ramon Valley Fire Protection District responded to a report of an
injured worker at the base of a 15-foot, 36-inch diameter bored
foundation hole. The adult male worker was removed by San Ramon Valley
Fire Rescue Team personnel approximately an hour and 15 minutes later at
0940 hours. The patient was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut
Creek by REACH Air Ambulance. The worker was in the hole when he was
struck from above by a falling bucket containing concrete debris.
The accident occurred while work was being conducted at the Mustang
Soccer Complex located at 4680 Camino Tassajara Road near Danville by
USAShade who was constructing a shade/weather structure. Soccer games
were being played on the field at the time of the incident.
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District dispatched five units and
18 personnel including its Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) members. OSHA
was notified and sent an investigator to the construction site.
