Danville, CA – The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District responded to a fire in a large two-story single family home located at 2978 Deer Meadow Dr in Blackhawk late last night, June 22, 2010 at approximately 11:15 p.m. A total of six engines, two trucks, two paramedic ambulances, four chief officers, one safety officer and two fire investigators were dispatched to the scene. A crew from Station 35 in Danville responding to a fire alarm activation arrived to find smoke and flames showing from the roof of the home. Firefighters requested additional resources and immediately began a search of the home.
An adult male was found unconscious in a bedroom of the home and was treated by San Ramon Valley firefighter/paramedics on scene and later flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose. A second adult male, 19 years of age, was found deceased in the home.
The fire cause is under investigation. The structure sustained approximately $1,500,000 in damage and $500,000 in content loss.
San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District reminds residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors on every level of their home, outside all sleeping areas and in all bedrooms. Test each smoke detector once a month and change the batteries twice a year when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.
